Major Goes Downward, Prithviraj Turns Disaster

Major Goes Downward, Prithviraj Turns Disaster

The theatrical result has always been a tough nut to crack. “Major”, which won universal positive ratings and strong social media buzz, is struggling to hold during weekdays. It looks like all its glory lasted for four days.

For its budget, the film received massive numbers in the first weekend. But given the word of mouth and its patriotic theme, the trade hoped that it would become a pan-India blockbuster. But the collections remained strong for the first weekend in the Telugu market.

The Hindi and Malayalam versions didn’t get much traction. Now, the Telugu market (including the USA) is also showing a downward trend. The weekday collections are near nil.

Kamal Haasan’s “Vikram” is holding well for a dubbed movie. The film collected more money than “Major” for the last two days in Telangana. However, it remains to be seen whether it would sustain the new release, Ante Sundariniki.

On the other hand, the story of Bollywood is no different. Another biggie starring a big star like Akshay Kumar bombed like anything. The film raked in an impressive 40 crore in the first weekend but tanked thereafter. By Wednesday, it is a total washout.
