Director Sekhar Kammula who mostly made love and family entertainers came up with a hard-hitting social drama Kubera, which is laced with commercial elements.
Revealing about the conflict of the movie, Sekhar Kammula says, “Imagine a beggar who wants nothing from the world, and a billionaire who wants everything. The conflict between such contrasting lives is fascinating. In recent times, many films are being made, but I truly felt joy in being able to tell a story like this. It needed to be told. It brings awareness and has a strong, thrilling core.”
The director was particular about casting Nagarjuna in the movie. “Nagarjuna indeed is apt for the role. He was portrayed varied roles in films like Manam and Oopiri. Here too, he’ll be seen in a completely new light. We have presented him differently, more rooted, with character-specific nuances.”
Sekhar affirms that no one else could’ve played the role essayed by Dhanush. “After watching the film, audiences will say the same. His performance is beyond outstanding. It’s hard to imagine anyone else in that role. He completely lives the character until the film wraps up. Often, he delivers even complex scenes in a single take.”
The director also says that the characters of Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh will surprise the audience.
Sekhar Kammula says he did exactly what the story required. “The subject alone has that wow factor. We made sure to communicate the theme clearly in the teaser and trailer. This is a story between the rich and the poor. It’s a very different film. And I’ve done it with even more honesty than usual.”
The bookings are impressive for the movie in domestic and overseas areas.
