Not all the Tollywood actors have the English title Superstar. It was only given to hero Krishna, while other actors of his genre were called in Telugu titles.
Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishna, popularly known as Krishna, was a daring personality not just in films. He was so daring even in politics at one point of time.
Interestingly, he was a strong competitor or challenger to N T Rama Rao both in films and politics as well.
Krishna acted, directed and produced several films that challenged NTR’s films in those days in theatres.
When NTR was at his heights in politics heading National Front, Krishna joined the Congress under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, contested the 1989 elections from Eluru Parliament Constituency and won the seat.
He defeated the TDP’s sitting MP Bolla Bulliramaiah by a margin of 71,000 votes. However, in the subsequent 1991 election, Krishna lost the seat to Bulliramaiah with a margin of 47,000 votes.
It is said that the rivalry between NTR and Krishna started in way back 1976 when both started the work on films based on the epic Mahabharat.
While Krishna was producing Kurukshetram film, NTR was producing Dana Veera Sura Karna movie and the talks for compromise did not work between them.
Later on like in the politics, he started films with political background such as Ramarajyamlo Bheemaraju, Prajarajyam, Mukhyamantri, Nayakulaku Saval, Agniparvatam, Vajrayudham, Naa Pilupe Prabhanjanam, Sankharavam, Prajaprathinidhi, Rajakeeya Chadarangam and so on, when NTR was the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh.
After NTR became chief minister in 1994, for the second time, Krishna hit the silver screen with films like Telugu Veera Levara, Bharata Simham and Sambhavam.
Either in the films or in politics, Krishna had his own style and had never compromised with NTR, who dictated both films and politics when he was at the helm.
