Interesting: Why Dangal Wasn't Released In Pakistan?

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan recently explained why his 2016 blockbuster Dangal was not released in Pakistan.

Speaking on Aap Ki Adalat, he revealed that Pakistan’s censor board demanded the removal of the Indian national flag and anthem from a key scene where wrestler Geeta Phogat wins a match.

Aamir firmly refused, stating he would not compromise on national pride for commercial gain.

Despite warnings that this decision could affect the film’s box office business, Aamir said he was uninterested in releasing the film under such conditions.

Produced by Disney and based on the real-life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, Dangal featured actors like Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar, and Zaira Wasim.

Though made on a Rs 70 crore budget, it went on to gross over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide, making it the only Indian film to cross that milestone.

Aamir is currently preparing for the release of his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par, scheduled for June 20, 2025.

The film features Genelia Deshmukh and ten newcomers in key roles. But the film is yet to gain buzz to pull audiences to theatres.
