Director Raj Kumar Gupta has clarified the reason behind casting Vaani Kapoor in place of Ileana D'Cruz for Raid 2.
While Ileana played Malini Patnaik in the 2018 film, Gupta explained that her personal life — marriage, motherhood, and moving abroad — led to the casting shift.
He stressed that the decision was practical, not personal, and that Ileana remains an integral part of the Raid universe.
Ajay Devgn reprises his role as IRS officer Amay Patnaik in the sequel, with Vaani Kapoor now portraying his on-screen wife.
Gupta emphasized that casting changes are common in the industry due to changing circumstances and schedules. He noted, “There’s no negativity; this happens often in films.”
Vaani Kapoor also addressed the shift, expressing admiration for Ileana and clarifying there’s no rivalry. She shared her excitement about exploring a new dimension in her role, calling the experience “refreshing” and creatively fulfilling.
