I visit theatres to watch my films 10, 50, 100 times: Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli, a renowned Indian filmmaker, has gained fame for creating blockbuster movies such as the Baahubali series and RRR that are packed with action and emotion.

Rajamouli has opened up about how he evaluates his work and ensures he understands how his audience perceives his movies.

The filmmaker believes that some people may have difficulty expressing their opinions about a movie, making it challenging for him to gauge its success. To address this, he prefers to watch his movies in the theatre and observe the audience's reactions.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Rajamouli stated, "It's crucial for me to comprehend how my audience members feel about my films. However, I don't believe that many people can adequately express their preferences. The minute you put them in a position to judge your film, they lose that perception."

Rajamouli shared that he even watches his films up to a hundred times to ensure he accurately judges his work.

He further explained, "The best way for me to assess my films is by sitting in the theatre with the audience and feeling their reactions. I sometimes visit theatres showing my films ten, thirty, forty, or even a hundred times to understand how the audience receives my films."

The director also disclosed that the Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana inspire his storytelling. While he read these stories as a child, as he grew older, he began to appreciate the conflicts within the characters and their motivations.

Rajamouli stated, "Anything that I create is in some way influenced by these texts. Those texts are like oceans, and every time I visit them, I discover something new."
