With “Ustaad Bhagat Singh” gearing up for release this month, director Harish Shankar has addressed ongoing speculation about the film’s storyline.
Ever since the teaser and promotional material were unveiled, many assumed the film was based on the Tamil hit “Theri,” which starred Vijay and was directed by Atlee. However, Harish Shankar has firmly denied that his film is a remake.
Clarifying his stance, he said he has never hesitated to acknowledge remakes in the past.
“I was the first person, way back in 2012, to openly state the ‘changes’ I made while remaking ‘Dabangg’ as ‘Gabbar Singh.’ I never hide when I adapt a story,” he explained.
He further added that if he is taking credit for story and screenplay, it clearly indicates that the film is not a remake.
“Just because Pawan Kalyan is playing a cop, it doesn’t make it ‘Theri.’ Even the Antyakshari-style ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ moment used in ‘Theri’ was inspired by ‘Gabbar Singh,’” he pointed out.
With this clarification, Harish Shankar has attempted to put an end to remake rumours ahead of the film’s release.
