Flop Director's Film Demanding Rs 14 Cr

Flop Director's Film Demanding Rs 14 Cr

Murugadoss is seen as a flop director with no recent hits to speak highly about him. He is now coming up with the film Madrasi starring Sivakarthikeyan.

In contrast, Sivakarthikeyan is riding high on success after his recent hit Amaran. However, expectations remain very low on Murugadoss’ direction. Still, the Telugu dubbing rights are being quoted at a whopping Rs 14 crore.

Distributors argue that even Rs 7 crore itself is a risky bet on this film, as no one really knows what content it holds.

Amaran worked because it was a biopic; that does not mean every Sivakarthikeyan film will achieve the same magic.

On the other hand, Telugu distributors are wary of senior Tamil directors, after Shankar (Gentleman) and Mani Ratnam (Thug Life) gave them unexpected setbacks. They now fear Murugadoss may deliver a similar shock.

With uncertainty about the film’s content and a weak pull factor from the director’s name, Telugu distributors are not coming forward to take up the film at such a high price.
