Don't play gimmicks, Mr Modi: Owaisi

Don't play gimmicks, Mr Modi: Owaisi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to the people to light candles for nine minutes at 9 pm on April 5 has invited a lot of bouquets and brickbats in the political and media circles and massive praise as well as trolling in the social media.

The biggest criticism came from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

Coming down heavily on the Prime Minister, Owaisi said India was not an event management company and Modi cannot play gimmicks on the people.

Owaisi took to twitter for attacking Modi for enacting what he called a big drama, at a time when the country was facing huge financial crisis.

"This country is not an event management company. The people of India are humans who too have dreams & hopes. Don’t reduce our lives to gimmicks of 9 mins, @PMOIndia. We wanted to know what aid states will get & what relief the poor will receive. Instead we got some new drama", Owaisi tweeted.

He said: "This tube-light idea was truly unique. As lakhs of hungry, poor and homeless migrants across India walk to their homes, I've to ask: where is the light PM? I know you only want positive vibes and don’t want us to raise some issues but where is the light?” he asked.

The MIM chief asked Modi to throw some light on the looming financial crisis and said the banking sector was facing an impending disaster after the country passes through the Covid-19 threat.

"What about darkness enveloping banking sector? Our growing NPA problem isn't going away. Your pre-Corona looming economic crisis will now become an impending financial disaster. What will happen to our savings? What'll happen to the banks?" he asked.

"Your lawyers in SC say that 1/3rd of these migrants (who were walking home) may be carrying the infection while your Health Ministry says there was no proof of community transmission in India. Where is the light?” he said.
