Dharmendra received ₹1.5 lakh for his role, while Amitabh Bachchan got ₹1 lakh. Sanjeev Kumar, who played Thakur Baldev Singh, was paid ₹1.25 lakh.
Amjad Khan earned ₹50,000 for his famous role as Gabbar Singh. Hema Malini was paid ₹75,000 for playing Basanti.
Jaya Bachchan was paid the least - only ₹35,000.
Sholay, directed by Ramesh Sippy, told the story of two ex-convicts, Jai and Veeru, who are hired by a retired policeman to capture the dreaded dacoit Gabbar Singh.
