Character Artistes Reducing Burden On Producers?

Character Artistes Reducing Burden On Producers?

For years, prominent character artistes in Tollywood arrived on set with extensive personal teams, often charging daily fees of Rs 5 to 10 lakh.

Producers were expected to pay not only the artiste’s remuneration but also the costs of their makeup artist, hair stylist, personal assistant, chef and other helpers on daily basis. This long-standing practice placed a heavy financial burden on film budgets.

As industry dynamics change, producers have begun enforcing stricter cost controls.

Although artistes initially resisted, the influx of new talent from neighbouring states has reduced opportunities for local Telugu actors.

Faced with increased competition, many character artistes have silently agreed to scale down their demands to stay active in the industry.

Most artistes now limit themselves to one assistant who handles makeup, hair and general support.

Producers only cover the reduced negotiated fee, now nearly 40 to 50 percent lower, along with providing a caravan. Any additional helpers must be paid solely by the artistes.
