Backlash Erupts After Sivaji's Dressing Remarks

Telugu actor Sivaji has landed in controversy following comments he made at the pre-release event of the upcoming Telugu film Dhandoraa on Monday, where he offered unsolicited advice to women and actresses on how they should dress.

The 54-year-old actor, known for films such as Missamma, Satyabhama, Court – State vs a Nobody, and his appearance on Bigg Boss Telugu 7, has been widely criticised on social media for his remarks.

Addressing the audience, Sivaji urged actresses to dress modestly, saying, “I request all heroines not to wear revealing outfits. Please wear sarees or dresses that fully cover the body. Beauty lies in complete attire or a saree, not in displaying physical assets.”

He further added that while people may not openly object in the name of personal freedom, they may still feel uncomfortable internally.

“A woman is like nature. When nature is beautiful, we respect it. A woman is like my mother, whom I hold close to my heart,” he said.

Citing legendary actresses Savitri and Soundarya, along with Rashmika Mandanna, Sivaji said they left a lasting impact through their graceful dressing.

“That is why I can name them,” he remarked.

According to media reports, Sivaji acknowledged that his comments could invite criticism.

“Freedom is precious—don’t lose it. People will respect you based on your conduct. Glamour should have limits; it should not cross a certain line,” he added.

Singer Chinmayi Sripada was among the first to strongly react, calling out Sivaji for giving “unnecessary advice” to women actors.

She alleged that the actor used derogatory language while making his remarks and said it was inappropriate to use such expressions in professional spaces.

In a post on X, Chinmayi pointed out what she described as hypocrisy, stating that Sivaji himself wears jeans and hoodies.

“If he is so concerned about Indian culture, he should wear only dhotis, apply bottu, and wear traditional symbols to reflect his marital status,” she wrote, adding that the treatment of women in such contexts was “unbelievable.”

Sivaji last appeared on Bigg Boss Telugu 7 in 2023, where he finished as the second runner-up.
