From quoting a record price to making steep cuts, the team of Akhanda 2 seems to have realized that the market isn’t as promising as they initially hoped.
The producers expected the OTT rights to be snapped up quickly once talks began, but with barely 45 days left for the film’s theatrical release on December 5, no deal has been sealed yet.
The first Akhanda was a massive success both in theaters and on streaming platforms.
Banking on that popularity, the producers demanded a hefty Rs 90 crore for the OTT rights of the sequel.
However, after JioHotstar declined the offer and Amazon Prime showed no interest, the team turned to Netflix, gradually reducing the asking price — first to Rs 75 crore, and later to Rs 65 crore.
It remains to be seen at what figure the final deal will be locked.
“Akhanda 2” stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in dual role and is directed by Boyapati Sreenu. The film is produced by 14 Reels Plus in association with Balakrishna’s daughter Tejaswini.
