We have directors who score hits with the combination of right hero, heroine, supporting actors, technical support, cinematography, and co-direction. This is why such directors and technicians are sought after by producers who demand huge remuneration.
When a film becomes a hit, the director's remuneration also increases to crores. Then their focus shifts on to real estate and their own production banners. Thus they lose their grip on their main domain of profession.
VV Vinayak is said to be as a director who grew up watching films in his father's theater and has a deep understanding of the masses' pulse. He is not a storyteller, but rather a director who can bring out the best in a good story. But due to lack of proper stories he gave worst disasters to Akhil Akkineni and Sai Dharam Tej earlier.
Unlike Vakkantham Vamshi, who is a skilled storyteller, Surender Reddy's strength lies in direction rather than storytelling. In the past, he has directed well when given a good story by Vamshi. However, his latest film "Agent", which was made with a budget of Rs 70-80 crore and starred Akhil Akkineni, turned out to be a disaster, despite Akhil's hard work and high hopes for the film.
The same is true for many directors who have grown up in the industry. They are becoming overly reliant on collaborations and combinations, neglecting the importance of a strong story. Even Trivikram, who has made many successful films, has been criticized for remaking old movies instead of focusing on new and innovative stories.
From Vikram K Kumar, Puri Jagannadh, Indraganti Mohankrishna to Avrasala, all movie failures can be attributed to poor storytelling. Srinu Vaitla was also not an exception. Even the plight of Trivikram's film, Agnyaathavaasi cannot be forgotten.
The way Koratala Shiva got diverted from story writing and direction to distribution and other financial dealings also cannot be ignored. He lost his creative sheen by dwelling his mind into burdensome financial issues which is not actually his cup of tea.
Filmmakers should focus on their craft and not solely on making money. They should not neglect their skills by coming overly focused on real estate investments. If they fail to update their skills and show their creativity, they may end up losing their relevance and disappearing from the industry.
While it is okay to invest in real estate, it should not come at the expense of their profession.
