Director earned $100 million from 'Oppenheimer'

Christopher Nolan didn't just achieve Oscar success with "Oppenheimer," he also reaped significant financial rewards.

According to sources familiar with his deal, the Academy Award-winning director reportedly earned nearly $100 million in salary, backend compensation, and bonuses from the immense success of his 3-hour epic, as reported by Variety.

"Oppenheimer," which garnered seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, grossed over $950 million worldwide, partly due to its 70-millimeter IMAX release.

Nolan's earnings were augmented by box office escalators and bonuses for winning both Best Director and Best Picture.

The film, centered around the creation of the atomic bomb, also secured Oscars for lead actor Cillian Murphy and supporting actor Robert Downey Jr.

With a potential rerelease on the horizon following its Best Picture win, "Oppenheimer" stands a chance to surpass the $1 billion mark at the box office.

News of Nolan's lucrative deal follows a Forbes report detailing Margot Robbie's impressive $78 million in gross earnings, largely attributed to the overwhelming success of "Barbie," which amassed nearly $1.5 billion at the box office.

Indeed, "Barbenheimer" became a cultural phenomenon during the summer, with audiences enjoying a double feature of the two distinctly different films.
