Usha Chowdhary: Parents Of BTech Students In Tensions

There was a time when doing engineering was considered a dream course and it was a Herculean task to actually get through into a college. However, with the floodgate policy of Chandrababu Naidu during his regime, every nook and corner has got an engineering college now and each year, about more than a lakh of engineers are said to be coming out.

However, the sheen and glamour for this has now taken a backseat if sources and latest market situations are to be referred. Apparently, reports have been coming in that there is a severe scarcity of jobs due to the recession and due to this, there have been no campus openings which are happening.

This has begun to give a shiver to the parents of the engineering students who have been shelling out a lot of money for the course. On a positive note, it is said that those students who have got flair in arts are trying to work things out in their own way. Similarly, those who are hailing from business families and are having business acumen are said to be looking at lying low and focus on few small business ventures. Above all, even the fascination of going to the US for masters has been coming down since the US market is in doldrums and is yet to recover.

While some are still taking the risk and going ahead with their programs in the US, there seems to be a problem of finding jobs while working as a student as well. While the students have been going through their own pressures, their parents have been going through a challenging time since they need to work out the money part and also try and see if they can pull any strings to get their kids a break.

The comfortable zone is for the rich kids who are said to be looking at doing MBA in foreign countries and then assess the market situation to make a decision. These are tough times for the parents but then time will be the answer for how life will take shape for the Btech students.
