How Prime Minister Feels Watching 'Akhanda 2'?

There is nothing wrong in expecting to show a film based on Sanathana Dharma to the Prime Minister of India.

Boyapati Srinu the director of Akhanda 2 expressed his plans to screen the film in Delhi to top people including the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

However the question is whether it is the right thing to do. Many TDP circles themselves feel it would be an unwise and wrong step to show it to him due to the content of the film.

The entire film portrays the Prime Minister as a mere spectator to the ordeals faced by the nation, rather than as an intelligent and proactive leader.

In one scene it is depicted as if an opposition party leader comes to the PMO, intimidates him politically and leaves while the Prime Minister looks helpless. The film also portrays the Indian armed forces as not as powerful as Balakrishna.

The entire system including the PMO depending on Balakrishna’s Akhanda character to save the nation, may become a big letdown for the Prime Minister and his team.

In a way screening this film to him may come across as insulting, which is unnecessary at this juncture especially when coalition politics are in place in Andhra Pradesh.

Moreover there are scenes where an army scientist played by Samyukta Menon is shown in revealing clothes, sharing alcohol with Balakrishna in a scene and also dancing to the “Jajikaya” song.

How Modi would feel watching “Jajikaya” song shot on an Army Scientist and an MLA, is another concern for many within the TDP itself.

Showing the complete film and asking the Prime Minister to selectively pick only the Sanathana Dharma dialogues and not think much about the rest could backfire.

Had it been films like 'The Kashmir Files' or 'The Kerala Story', the depiction of the subject is political and religious and handled with serious intent.

But Akhanda 2 is largely made for Balayya fans with heavy commercial elements and Balakrishna’s histrionics which may be understood by his fans, but could appear completely out of place or excessive to North Indian audiences.

“Better not to screen this to the Prime Minister. If he watches it it could be an insult to him” says a TDP insider.
