An Indian-origin man from New York has been arrested for allegedly working two full-time jobs at the same time and stealing taxpayer money.
Mehul Goswami, 39, is accused of embezzling more than $50,000 in taxpayer funds while secretly working a second job at GlobalFoundries in Malta during his official work hours with the New York State Office of Information Technology Services.
According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Goswami began the second job in March 2022, juggling both roles remotely.
He now faces a non-bailable Class C felony charge of grand larceny, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
“Public employees are entrusted with the responsibility to serve with integrity, and Mr. Goswami’s alleged conduct represents a serious breach of that trust,” said New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang.
She added that “working a second, full-time job while claiming to work for the State is an abuse of public resources.”
Goswami was arraigned before Malta Town Judge James A. Fauci and released on his own recognizance as the charge is not bail-eligible under New York law.
Inspector General Lang stated, “My office will continue to work closely with law enforcement to hold anyone accountable who undermines the integrity of public service in New York State.”
