US Warns India Visitors on Visa Misuse

The US Embassy in India has issued a fresh warning to people applying for B1 and B2 US visitor visas, cautioning them to strictly follow the rules of their visa during their stay in the United States.

In a video shared on X, the embassy said travellers must clearly understand what they are allowed—and not allowed—to do on a visitor visa.

It warned that consular officers can reject visa applications if they believe the applicant does not intend to follow the rules.

“During your visa interview, if the consular officer believes you do not intend to follow the rules for a visitor visa, he or she may deny your application,” the embassy said in the animated clip. It added that it is the visa holder’s responsibility to use the visa correctly.

The embassy further warned that misusing a B1/B2 visa or overstaying could lead to serious consequences.

“Learn what you are and are not allowed to do when visiting the United States on a B1/B2 visitor visa. If you misuse your visa or stay longer than allowed, you could be permanently banned from future travel,” the video stated, directing viewers to travel.state.gov/visas for more information.

The advisory comes a day after the embassy issued a similar warning to international students. It said students who violate US laws risk visa revocation, deportation, and possible ineligibility for future US visas.

“Breaking US laws can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future US visas,” the embassy said, adding that “a US visa is a privilege, not a right.”

The warnings come amid a broader tightening of immigration and visa rules under the administration of Donald Trump, with authorities taking a stricter approach toward compliance and enforcement.
