Telugu Association of Southern California conducted the Star Night event on Friday July 10th 2009 at the La Mirada Theatre of Performing Arts. Rarely has a Star Night event ever witnessed such a plethora of musical, dance and comic talents in one evening and they sure did not disappoint their eager fans.
The attendees were greeted to a delicious dinner from Dosa Place, Tustin and time to socialize with friends and family before the show started. Hot Breads, Artesia and **BharatHosting.com* <http://bharathosting.com/>* put up shopping exhibits in support of this event. Many of the strategic improvements undertaken by TASC notably online membership processing and ticket sales helped in eliminating long lines and increasing transparency in the organization. Nearly half of the attendees availed the online services offered by www.manatasc.org.
The show began with a medley of performances from local talents included bhratanatyam by Anila Reddy, annamacharya keertana by Keerti, dance to Aha-Naa-Pellanta by Monica Rani and tribute dance performances to the late king of pop, Michael Jackson by Sireesha, Kiran Kavipurapu and Aravinda Kavipurapu.
Popular TV anchors Suma and Jhansi took over the MC duties and entertained the crowds with their quick wit and spontaneous humor throughout the evening.
The comedy skits performed by Rajeev Kanakala, Raghubabu, Uttej, Maharshi, Jhansi and Suma were a laugh a riot leaving the audience in splits. Tollywood actress Navneet Kaur danced to couple of telugu fast beats like "Akaleste Annam Pedata" with enthusiastic cheering from the crowd. Popular Telugu Singers Mano and Usha sang numerous tollywood hit songs including "Mukkala Mukabla", "Shankar Dada", "Chukkalu Temmanna Tenchuku Raana" etc.
Parody singer "Reverse Gear" Guruswamy's rib tickling act included reverse gear songs, harikathalu, TV commercials in reverse and radio jingles to the thunderous applause from the gallery. Mimicry Srinivas enthralled the crowd with his mimicry and ventriloquism while Whistle Ramana sang old and new telugu songs with whistle and entertained the crowd.
Local MC Ramesh Gattu introduced the Grand Sponsors of the Star Night event, noted entrepreneurs and philanthropists Dr Prem Sagar Reddy and Dr Shanti Reddy. Chief Guest TDP MLA Errabelli Dayakar Rao felicitated Dr. Prem Sagar Reddy by presenting him with a shawl and memento for his rich contributions to the Telugu community of Southern California. The Executive Committee President Usha Gorti, Vice-President Bharathi Pinninty, Secretary Sreekanth Komatireddy and Treasurer Murali Venkataramana Reddy felicitated noted guests TANA president Jayaram Komati, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, C.M. Ramesh and patron members Dharma Reddy Gummadi, Mohan Mallam, Anil Arrabelli, Malik Banda, Nadadur Vardhan, Jayadev Appanagiri, Lakshman Koka.
All the Tollywood artists were applauded and presented with special mementos by the Chairs in recognition of their contribution in making the Star Night an evening to remember. After the event, the artists humbly obliged to photos and autographs with their eager fans.
