Tank Bund Statues Vs Telangana Fire

Andhra Pradesh….the land of Telugus, whenever I think of that it makes me feel proud. And the feeling gets doubled when I think about the capital city of Hyderabad. I am sure there are many who would be reading this with the same feeling. However, the city that grew along with us and was all set to beat the likes of Chennai, Bangalore etc has come down collapsing like a pack of cards in the recent few months and the reason for that – sheer dirty politics.

The incident that took place on March 10th, 2011 in the garb of a political movement is something makes our heads hang in shame. Yes, I am referring to the demolition of the statues of some of the unforgettable stalwarts at Tank Bund. They have given a new meaning to the Telugu culture and heritage. It is rather disgusting and blood boiling to note that few illiterate and savage bunch of political goons disguising themselves as martyrs for a separate state of Telangana have stooped to such an act.

I fail to understand one thing- what did Annamayya or a Krishnadevaraya or a Ballari Raghava do to stop their movement? To add to the woes, it is a shame to see men like KTR, prof Kodhandaram justifying these heinous acts. If these are the types of leaders we have, then one can imagine the plight of Telangana when a separate state actually forms. Instigating the rather unaware students and clubbing them with their own political followers and creating unrest and bringing disgrace to the city and state in the eyes of the entire nation, what sort of a political movement is that?

My anguish is not about their demand for a separate state, it is the approach which is totally roguish. And desecrating the statues of people who never thought of this Telugu land as two different parts and dedicated their lives for us, this is the respect they are getting. Today, I am seeing many youngsters with hot blood and adrenaline jumping with excitement and mob frenzy only to appear in front of television screens but turn the wheel just few years and then they will know how much they have lost and the costly price they have paid for falling ignorantly into the trap of few dirty politicians.

This is not just a failure of the government or the system, this is a failure of the Telugu people who are vulnerable to such hatred philosophy. Wake up folks and save your land….
