The World Telugu Writers’ Conference which began at Vijayawada under the auspices of Krishna District Writers’ Association on Saturday is being viewed as yet another attempt by the Seemandhra leaders to stress on the unity of the Telugu people.
The association has not only invited Telangana writers to the conference but also accorded them rousing reception.
As a clever move, the conference was made to be inaugurated by noted Telangana poet Dr C Narayana Reddy, who garlanded the statue of Telugu Talli on the occasion, though the Telangnaa poets have discarded Telugu Talli and projected Telangana Talli as an alternative icon for the Telangana people.
Significantly, Cinare had in the recent past endorsed the movement for separate Telangana and even acknowledged that there were cultural differences between the people of two regions.
The conference also invited senior journalists from Telangana region, including hardcore Telangana protagonist like K Srinivas, editor of Andhra Jyothy.
However, the organizers have not invited Telangana Rachayitala Vedica poets, who have been openly campaigning in favour of state bifurcation.
“It is an attempt to project to the Centre that the Telugu speaking people are together and hence, there is no need to grant statehood to the Telangana,” a Telangana poet alleged.
