Spotlight: Telugu TV Channel Fight For 'Position-2'

Spotlight: Telugu TV Channel Fight For 'Position-2'
When there are many players in the media market, it is but natural that there is bound to be competition and only the best will stand at the top. A similar situation is currently happening in our Andhra Pradesh and that too in the small screen circuit.

With the flood of news channels that came in the last one year, there is a neck to neck combat going on. So here is a look at the latest standings according to the reports received from a reliable source.

There are a total of 27 channels in AP out of which 14 are the news channels. They have been recording a viewership of 20% while the remaining 80% goes to the entertainment channels.

Top in the list is the Gemini TV which has been going strong since quite a while and that too with a comfortable margin. However, the second position has become a tight spot. There are three channels on the same boat vying for honors. They are – MAA TV, ZEE Telugu, ETV.

Apparently, Local TV is the fastest growing among the new channels and the reason they are better than the rest of the lot is due to their creative concepts and a trendsetting approach towards programs. There was a time when TV9 ruled the roost since they had the sensational news concept. But today, all news channels have the same rut so viewers just keep toggling around and get hooked to any channel they like.

On the other hand, the element of irritation is also creeping up due to the news channels and their over-action putting everything in ‘Breaking News’ and sensationalizing every trivial issue.

However, the Local TV has set themselves apart by giving a tough fight with their unconventional yet appealing approach. Gemini is ruling as it is top in serials. Its major strength is the lady audience who are hooked in a big way. It must be said that the Gemini team has got a very good quality in their serials along with neat visual appeal. So now, all boils down to the second spot and looking at the current trend, it appears that all the three channels are strugling in second spot with same programmes in the same time bands. If this trend continues the day is not far when Local TV might just get past these three channels.
