Spotlight: Man donates Rs 5cr for poor

Adilabad/Nizamabad: Mr T. Ranaveer Reddy, 32, native of Nizamabad who is settled in Hyderabad, has donated half of his ancestral property for the benefit of scheduled castes, tribals and the poor. He works as a legal adviser to a private company in Hyderabad.

The value of the property is nearly Rs 10 crore. It belonged to Mr Reddy’s grandfather T. Linga Reddy. Mr Reddy donated the property to fulfil the wishes of his mother T. Nanda Kumari who died recently of cancer. Thummala Narayana Reddy, the ex-BJP district president of Adilabad is his father.

Mr Reddy submitted a memorandum to the Adilabad collector Mr Ahmad Nadeem on Friday, expressing his willingness to donate the property and asked that a committee of reputed persons be formed to advice on the use of the property for the welfare and development of the poor.

His property includes two houses, one in Majulapur in Nirmal mandal and another in Adilabad town. There are also agricultural lands in Tamsha and Manjulapur villages.

Last month, Mr Reddy had donated assets worth Rs 2 crore belonging to his mother. They included a house at Old NGOs colony in Nizamabad and 17 acres of wetland in Donkal village of Morthad mandal.

This too was done in accordance with his mother’s wishes. However, the property is yet to be transfered to the government. Mr Reddy said, the paperwork is taking time.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Reddy said his mother wished to use the house for orphaned and abandoned women particularly to enable them to be self employed. She wanted the 17 acres of wetland to be used for environmental protection, he said.

Mr Reddy was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth and said he had to struggle a great deal in his life. Nobody had supported his mother, not even his father who “deserted us when I was a child and married another woman illegally.” He has recently launched an NGO, Nandakumari Mother Earth Concern Society, in his mother’s memory.
