Harsith is 15 years old and he is fighting Blood Cancer Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Pre B Calla +ve). Parents are struggling to save the young life. The Treatment of Chemotherapy as per BFM protocol started on April 25 , 2011 in St Johns Medical College Hospital Bengaluru and the boy was responding well to the treatment.
NATA Community Services Chair: Srinivas Ganagoni actively working with the young boy's relative Prasad Vutukuri who is driving the effort. NATA already sent out emails to the NATA team requesting their support and also trying to reaching out to the other Telugu Community seeking help in saving this young boy's life. The boy's father is working as a Telephone Operator in BSNL and he can't afford this kind of money for the treatment.
In November, the tragedy got doubled because the growth of the cancer cells are very fast and doctors advised that Harsith has to undergo BMT (Bone Marrow Transplantation).
Unfortunately the samples from his sister did not match and Doctors have started the search for a donor world wide . Since the donor is not in the family, the expenses have doubled and we cannot afford that huge amount.
The Donor search is continuing and the expenses to get the Matched stem cells from National Marrow Donor Program is unimaginable . The National Marrow Donor Program has informed the Hospital in Bengaluru that there are two potential donors available in US and they need to start the process . The complete cost of the stem Cells acquiring from the donor and doing the tests and Transporting them to India is close to $ 80,0000. This cost need to be paid to National Marrow Donor Program. Also there are Hospital charges which are approximately $ 40, 000 for the Bone Marrow Transplantation and treating side affects of the BMT. Last week doctors mentioned that the BMT needs to be done in 3 months as Harsith is not able to take any more chemos as Haristh body has become very week.
