Sania-Shoaib wedding today: Fatwa effect?

Sania-Shoaib wedding today: Fatwa effect?

The Sania Mirza-Shoaib Malik affair is taking several twists and turns with every passing day like a typical Bollywood story.

And on Monday, the family sprang a surprise on the media declaring that Sania and Shoaib are going to get married in the afternoon in Hyderabad, four days in advance. Till Sunday, the family had been saying that the wedding would take place on April 15 evening, followed by grand reception at Taj Krishna hotel.

However, Sania’s media manager Rucha Naik surfaced before the media at around 10.45 am on Monday and announced that Sania and Shoaib “nikah” would take place today. “We can't reveal time and venue of the marriage because of security reasons," Rucha said.

She also announced that the mehendi ceremony will take place on Tuesday in which Sania will wear her mother's 25-year-old red-coloured sari. On the other hand, Shoaib will wear the typical black Muslim sherwani, designed by famous designers from Mumbai Shantanu and Nikhil. “It is going to be purely a personal affair with a few close friends and relatives attending the ceremony. We will appreciate if the media stays away from this function,” Rucha said.

It was surprising why the marriage date has been advanced by four days and rescheduled for Monday. Sources say the main reason is because of the fatwa issued by Sunni Ulma Board on Sunday, asking the Muslim community to stay away from the marriage because Sania and Shoaib had been enjoying physical proximity and staying under the same roof much before the Nikah, which is against the tenets of Islam. So, the family thought the earlier the nikah is performed the better for the family to wriggle out of all sorts of controversies.
