Public Talk: 'I Repent And Say Sorry'

After the unfortunate demise of YSR, the only issue that Andhra Pradesh has been dealing with is the Telangana movement. Triggered with captions like ‘Atma Gauravam’ and giving it a 50 year old history, many have jumped into the movement. Here are few excerpts from across the state from the general public and what they feel about the whole issue.

Siddaiah, a government employee said “While some are sincere and dedicated Telangana seekers in this movement, some have seen opportunity and mileage so they jumped into it. There is sentiment among few groups but due to some elements, the movement didn’t get its due momentum.” Raghuramaiah, a retired lecturer said “The main problem for this is water. If there is water for all districts of Telangana then there will be no trouble. The Eththipothala Padhakam was also a treachery. First, the water problem should be solved and the rest of issues will get automatically solved.”

Murthy, a former engineer with irrigation department mentioned “The best way to solve Telangana issue is by creating a proper water network for this region. If the government can follow K L Rao’s formula of inter linking of rivers no region in India can be arid except Thar.”

Shivaji, who runs his own painting workshop mentioned “I am repenting and saying sorry for cursing Telangana agitation all this while. But politically Sakala Janula Samme or any other agitation is not the way. This issue needs good insight and consensus on infrastructure development and irrigation facilities. If they were fulfilled there will be no need for this movement at all.”

Satish, a businessman said “They spent crores of money and came up with Sriram Sagar project. What is the use? Only if there is a flood, water will come otherwise nothing. They said that it will be extended to Mehboobnagar, Nizamabad and spent nearly Rs 50000 crores. All that is sheer waste of public money.”

Manohar, a bank manager mentioned “Those who are in coastal region are strong due to agriculture. Even if they give their lands on ‘Kavulu’, they can make good money. But that is not the case with our region. Not that people like KCR, Kodhandaram will come and do wonders but the fact is, Telangana region is underdeveloped and it needs a strong support.”

Majid, a private employee said “We have so many scams happening due to the politicians. If they can take atleast half amount out of the 2G scam, then entire India will be prosperous. Honestly speaking, the separate state problem which is arising in various parts of India is due to lack of water. If that system is intact, then no one will find the need to separate.

Narendra from Karimnagar said “This Telangana Lolli and Sakala Janula Samme, all this is waste. Because, the only people benefitting from this is KCR and his family, Kodhandaram etc. Regular employees also are feeling like they are leaders and giving lectures in TV channels. Even I want Telangana. But I don’t have faith in the people who are leading this movement.”

Susheel, a self-employed person said “Breaking a state into two is not a joke. Sentiment alone will not feed any region, even if it is Telangana or other state. One has to be think about the cost involved, what sort of development infrastructure plans are in place and most importantly, how matured are the leaders who are going to rule the region.”

While various opinions are given on this, the final objective should be the people of Telangana must prosper and get on par with the other developed regions in the country. This should happen in a way that doesn’t cost the Aam Janta their livelihood and peace of mind.
