Several parents of children participating in the “Aata” reality show being telecast in the Zee Telugu channel defended the programme, stating that it was meant to encourage the young talent.
A couple of parents shouted at the media for equating their children’s dances with that of film vamps. “Do they know the meaning of vamps? How can they call our children vamps? If the children come to know about the meaning, what would be the impact on their minds? Will channels take the responsibility, if the children take to extreme steps?” they asked.
They also defended the dressing of their kids. “If they dance to a number, they will have to wear similar costumes. Children look smart in any dress. It is not correct to compare them with dance girls,” they said.
The parents said that everything on the show was a matter of personal choice. They said they were simply encouraging their children's interests in participating in the dance competition, and that as parents, they had the authority to take a decision over their children's life. “There is absolutely no pressure on them,” they argued.
The parents have filed a petition now, demanding that the charges filed against them be dropped.
