The last few days have proved, without a trace of doubt as to what most of us have been sure of – UPA Chairman Sonia Gandhi, CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, Gov. Narsimhan, Speaker Nadendla, and opposition leader Chandra Babu schemed to crush YS Jagan politically and in the process they are violating the Constitution of India.
The people of Andhra Pradesh (AP) think that they cannot even approach judiciary for fairness as the High Court of AP was an active participant in illegal swearing in of Rosayya as the Chief Minister in the aftermath of the tragic demise of Dr. YSR. Please note that Rosayya was not even elected as the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP), which was not even convened before he was sworn in.
The Constitution of India was breached deliberately by the High Command of Congress party, and no constitutional experts would dare talk against it. We understand the Election Commission of India (ECI) does not have any say in this matter. But this has, in essence pushed the democracy off the cliff. The society and people have to understand that we have reached a point of no return.
The democratic values got so devalued after the death of Dr. YSR that both Congress party and TDP have colluded shamelessly in destroying the credibility of the honorable positions of Governor and Speaker, and the honor of the Judiciary. What used to be rare foul plays in the background before have now become shamelessly open!
A two page letter by Sankar Rao, at the behest of Sonia Gandhi (he admitted categorically) prompted Justice Kakru to order full blown CBI investigation. Sankar Rao was rewarded a ministry and Karku a cabinet rank HRC Chairman.
A two thousand page petition, with pin point proofs by Vijayamma was tossed away by Justice Rohini, who was appointed to the High Court by Chandra Babu. This is not the justice masses of India would put their faith in. We understand the Election Commission of India (ECI) does not have any say in this matter.
But His Excellency, Dr. SY Quraishi, Election Commission of India can make a difference in the latest violation of the Constitution of India.
The open manipulation of constitutional decorum by Speaker Nadendla, in the delayed disqualification of 17 MLAs, who violated the whip till the latest by-election schedule was announced, so they could avoid conducting by-polls, along with the seven constituencies that were notified by ECI is a blot on the very essence of democracy. This is an open manipulation of Constitution by the Congress party, with the help of Speaker Nadendla.
We need to understand that by destroying the democratic values, we are forever desecrating the face of mother India.
The violation of the whip by 17 MLAs was in the presence of the Speaker and it was an open and close case, where the Speaker should have made a decision in days, not months.
People of AP feel that there is no fairness in the system and the ECI has an opportunity to make them believe in it by calling for by-elections of 17 constituencies in a reasonable time frame, and not wait six months or more.
ECI also has to follow the age-old tradition of conducting elections for all the vacant seats before the Presidential elections. If this tradition is also not followed, then the people of India would lose faith in the fairness of ECI, too. And, this will have a devastating effect on the society at large, which would fall in to the despair and lawlessness.
TN Seshan became synonymous with transparency, efficiency and forward vision during his tenure as the CEC and we would hope that Dr. SY Quraishi would follow the same hallowed path.
