The game of cricket is without doubt a religion which unites all Indians irrespective of their caste, color or creed. And that is why when players give iconic performances they become idols. Though the idols are many there is only one god for all. He is Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster as he is called, Sachin has amassed figures and records in such a way that it will take another few decades for any other cricket to reach him.
Cut to present, the position of Sachin has fallen in quandary and many cricket fanatics are propping that it is time for the master to lay down his bat. Some are also criticizing at his poor form and suggesting he should take the cue from Aussie Ricky Ponting who has retired the game. Practically and rationally the fanatics may be right at their calculation and analysis but let’s face it.
Can an Indian imagine the game of cricket without the God himself? True that Sachin may not be in the best of nick but the fact remains that he is the only one who can pull off miracles. For the number of runs he scored, Sachin should have retired by 34 owing to the physical wear and tear of his body but even today he runs between the wickets like a newborn deer.
The phase of Sachin right now is taking us back to the time when he suffered a tennis elbow injury and was almost ruled out of the game. Sachin never reacted and kept silent. After a while, he came back and let his bat do the talking. From then on, he achieved milestones which are humanly impossible for any cricketer. So, instead of criticizing his form or lamenting that he is not performing, it is better for all to give the master his space and play his shots accordingly.
