33-year-old Sujana Umesh of Ashburn,VA who is well known in NRI community in USA for her social service and philanthropic activities has ended her life in tragic accident on the oceanfront in a Virginia beach Friday night after being caught in a rip current. She is a Telugu girl and originated from Karnataka.
Sujana was swimming with her family when a rip current pulled her and other family members further into the water, according to police. Lifeguards and citizens tried to rescue her but initially lost sight of her in the water, according to police. Her body was recovered later Friday night.
Her body was kept for public Viewing on Sunday July5, 2009 at funeral house in Chantilly,VA between 3PM and 5PM. Hundreds visited her for last time.
Her body is being transported to India on Wednesday July 8th for Funeral.

Sujana is one of the most active philanthropic activities among NRI community who always believed that being born in India makes us feel proud and she always used to motivate groups to take lead for serving the less privileged people back home in India. She was a founding core member and women leader of NRIVA Family which runs several schemes like Adapt A Student, Permanent Education Fund, Resource Centeres and several scholarships in India. She is a very energetic, passionate, hard working, loving and caring person. She is a strong disciple of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba and active participant in that groups. She is also active member of JET and follower of Sri Srimannarayana Chinna Jeeyar Swami Teachings.
She has also served several Telugu associations in Washington DC and was cultural director in Capital Area Telugu Sangam,CATS in Washnington DC.
Apart from taking care of her job, her family, her little son, her business she always used to keep aside some time in a day for social activities.
She is a strong believer in Vasvi Matha message of Satyam Sheelam Ahimsa and was on the forefront of organizing and celebrating Mother's Day and Vasavi Jayanthi Celebrations across 50 states in USA along with social organization NRIVA.
NRIVA Meetings at ATA -2008
She came to last year ATA conference held in Jew Jersey with her one year old little son and her husband Umesh Garu, just for NRIVA meetings and to meet NRIVA Core members. She organized and participated in the NRIVA meetings in ATA-08 on July 3rd and July4th 2008.
NRIVA Activities
She was always first to come forward to take lead or volunteer when ever NRIVA took any activity. She played key role in Kids Drawing contest, Vasavi Vani articles, Matrimonials, Adopt-A-Syudent, Vasavi Jayanthi campain in India, NRIVA Membership Drive etc. Apart from her significant time contribution, she always contributed money and other resources. One can easily understand her involvement in NRIVA activities by her emails, presence in conference calls.
Help to the community
She helped lot of NRI members with Jobs, Career guidance, immigration matters, education guidance and help in many other things. She always reacted positively whenever someone needed help.
