No Job, No Tension: Techie Drives Uber By Choice

No Job, No Tension: Techie Drives Uber By Choice

Amid Oracle’s mass layoffs, the story of a former employee from the company’s Bengaluru office has gone viral for the way he handled job loss with calmness and practical planning.

Instead of staying back in Bengaluru and immediately rushing to find another corporate job, the techie reportedly returned to his hometown, Bhubaneswar, and moved in with his parents.

By doing so, he avoided the high cost of living that usually comes with staying in a metro city like Bengaluru.

Rather than sitting idle, he decided to use a simple skill he already had — driving — and started working as an Uber driver in his hometown, earning at his own convenience.

His story was shared on X by user Nayak Satya, who claimed to be a close friend of the laid-off employee.

According to Satya, the techie was able to handle the situation without panic because he had already built a strong financial backup through years of disciplined savings.

Instead of depending only on salary, he had invested money in multiple fixed deposits and postal savings schemes.

As per the post, he had created two joint postal accounts worth ₹15 lakh each — one with his parents and another with his wife — along with a smaller account in his child’s name.

These investments reportedly generate around ₹28,000 per month as interest.

In addition, he also has bank fixed deposits worth nearly ₹30 lakh, which bring him another ₹15,000 every month.

Together, his passive monthly income is said to be more than ₹40,000.

Because of this steady backup income, he did not feel forced into panic mode after losing his job.

Instead, he chose to stay active, productive, and financially independent by driving for Uber while he figures out his next move.

Importantly, this decision was not made out of desperation, but more as a practical and flexible way to stay engaged and keep earning.

At the same time, he is also said to be planning to start a small business with support from his family.

His friend described the approach as “pure old-school vibes”, saying the techie stayed away from financial trends and simply focused on steady savings, discipline, and low-risk planning.

According to the post, he also has no EMIs, no loans, and no financial burden from owning a metro city apartment, which has further helped him stay stress-free during this phase.

The story has drawn a lot of praise on social media, with many users appreciating his calm mindset and practical backup plan.

Some called it a strong example of how simple saving habits, family support, and a content lifestyle can make a big difference during uncertain times.

At a time when layoffs are creating anxiety across the tech industry, this story has stood out as a reminder that smart financial planning can sometimes be the best safety net.
