North America Telugu Society and Telugu Literary and Cultural Association Jointly hosted a free medical camp in New York on December 2, 2012. About 78 patients with no medical insurance attended the camp and received medical help.
40 patients received free flu shots which were sponsored by Dr. Kanumilli Janaki and Dr.Maddineni Durga and were administered by Dr. Krishna Badhey and Dr.Silpa Saladi. All the patients had a free blood sugar checkup helped by Dr. Neil Mandava, Dr. Vineet Korrapati, Dr. Alluri Jaggarao and Dr. Shilpa Reddy Pailla.
Dr. Radha Voleti and Dr.Sarat Bhumi provided cardiology consultations and gave free EKG test with technical help from Dr.Swati Roy at the camp and diagnosed severe cardiac disease in a few patients and were advised to further follow up.
18 female patients were given appointments for free mammograms for breast cancer screening, sponsored by Flushing Hospital Medical Center with help from Dr. Neil Mandava and Ms. Nisha Kochar.
Dr. Mahalakshmi Venigalla, Dr. Janaki Kanumilli, Dr.Durga Maddineni, Dr. Bharati Reddy, Dr. Jaggarao Alluri and Dr.Ramu Reddy examined all the patients throughout the camp.
Dr. Sridevi Bhumi and Dr. Vineet Korrapati provided free gastroenterology consultations to the needy patients.
Dr. Kalpana Reddy Gaddam provided endocrinology consultations and diabetic advice to the patients.
Dr. Anupa Mandava provided free eye checkup for about 37 patients and even removed foreign body from a patient’s eye at the camp today.
A free bone marrow drive was arranged by Raj Allada (NATS tristate regional coordinator) with SAMARA.
All the student volunteers were coordinated by medicos Arvind Badhey, Sriya Bhumi and Kudaravalli Abhi and Voleti Navya.
Some of the patients even came from New Jersey.
TLCA president Mr. Gupta and Vice-president Voleti Rao with help from Dr. Madhu Korrapati supervised the entire event. Members of the TLCA executive committee including Krishnasri Gandham, Yogiswar Vanama, Satya Challapalli, Dharmarao Thapi, Raji Kuncham, Manohar Chillara and Ashok Chintakunta provided all the logistical help at the camp.
NATS representatives Murty Gulivindala, Raj Allada and Arvind Badhey distributed the blood sugar machines to all the patients sponsored by NATS and Abbott laboratories.
None of the above would have been possible without a proper venue and food for all which was provided by Shri. Sid Kamath at the Shridi Saibaba Temple.
