Man, woman posing as married couple to get US visa arrested

CHENNAI: A man and woman from Gujarat who allegedly posed as husband and wife and produced fake documents to obtain US visas have been arrested here.

A broker who suggested them to pose as married couple was also arrested yesterday, Joint Commissioner of police (Mylapore) A G Mourya told PTI today.

Imran Patel (27) and Sonal (33) had approached the US consulate here seeking a tourist visa to US, claiming to be husband and wife.

US Consulate officials found out that the duo had produced fake bank documents as well as fake certificates showing them to be Ayurvedic practitioners, he said.

Later they were arrested and based on their information, broker Altaf was picked up from a hotel, Mourya said.

Patel and Sonal had claimed themselves to be a married couple to get the visa quickly, he said.

All the three had been remanded to judicial custody, he said.
