New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani recently had his Bollywood knowledge put to the test and the results weren’t exactly flattering for filmmaker Mira Nair’s son.
While he struggled with many of the questions, his perfect recreation of Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic pose did earn him some extra points.
Appearing on Mehdi Unfiltered, Mamdani started off well in the Bollywood song-guessing game, quickly identifying “Chaiyya Chaiyya” from the Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala starrer Dil Se. But his momentum didn’t last long.
He failed to recognise other classics like “It’s the Time to Disco” from Kal Ho Naa Ho and “Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna” from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
The DDLJ moment, however, led to some fun. Mamdani couldn’t name the song, but flawlessly struck Shah Rukh Khan’s famous arms-wide-open pose.
He said he could imagine SRK walking down the steps and hitting his signature move as the song played.
Though he correctly associated the track with DDLJ, he couldn’t recall the title.
Host Hasan teased him, joking that Mamdani was stalling for time instead of admitting he didn’t know the answer.
Mamdani has always been open about his love for Bollywood.
During his campaign, he often infused Bollywood flavour into his events; even ending his victory speech with “Dhoom Machale” from the 2004 film Dhoom blasting in the background.
Lets face it, we’ve all been wondering since we heard ‘Dhoom Machale’ blaring from the speakers at @ZohranKMamdani's victory celebration, if the Mayor-elect is a Bollywood music lover, so we put him through the ringer in this quiz.
