
Dallas, TX: The Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) a twenty-year old non-profit organization has been pursuing the City of Dallas to install Mahatma Gandhi statue for a quite some time and finally got the approval from the City.
“We sincerely thank Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert for taking initiative in realizing our long cherished dream. More than 100,000 Indian-Americans who live in the Greater Dallas area would be very excited to see Mahatma Gandhi statue in the heart of the Dallas City soon. This is the project of the whole Indian-American community; several India based organizations including the India Association of North Texas (IANT), Individuals, Professional, Businesses, Entrepreneurs, Women, Youth and Senior Citizens will be part of this project and historical movement. The statue will be made in India by a noted sculptor Mr. B. Siva Varaprasad and shipped to Dallas. Varaprasad is a very experienced sculptor especially in making Bronze statutes and also the winner of the President (Abdul Kalam) Award for his skills,” Prasad Thotakura, Texas State Coordinator and the General Secretary, IAFC said.
IAFC, the host organization of the project, has already allocated $10,000 towards making this cause. Several organizations and businesses are coming forward to support the project. Prasad Thotakura, Dr. Tarakumar Reddy, Piyush Patel, Taiyab Kundawala, Dr. C.R. Rao, Dr. Niranjan Tripathy, Rao Kalvala, Dr. Sat Gupta and Renee Dutia are serving as Board of Directors of IAFC.
