Indian homes in the USA targeted for gold

Dallas, Texas: For the last couple of months, several burglaries are happening in Indian houses in Dallas area. As a matter of fact, four houses have been robbed on the same day in a span of three hours in one apartment complex in Dallas. All these burglaries happened in a similar way on August 2nd, 2008.

“It is very unfortunate to note that these kinds of number of incidents occurring in our Indian homes. This is an organized crime and these thieves target only Indian family homes knowing that our Indian women ware a lot of jewelry. These thieves don’t touch any valuable items except gold. I alert all Indian families not to keep any gold in their houses except daily ware and keep everything in bank safe deposit lockers” Prasad Thotakura, TANA Secretary, said.

Mr. Dharmakar & Mrs. Madhavi went for a walk around 9:00 PM, returned by 10:00 PM and noticed that their house has been robbed and lost 400 gms of Gold which is worth more than $14,000. Mr. Talluri Krishna family came back from the temple and shocked to note that they have lost all of their valuables in their home. Similarly, Mr. Golla Vengaiah family left their house only one hour for a dinner and found that their house been robbed in the same apartment complex. Mr. Koneru Sunil’s family lost around $25,000 worth of Jewelry in Plano City in a similar way.

“We filed a police complaint and hoping for the best. We are feeling very insecure in our homes. Just, I returned from India, recently I lost my mother and just before her passing away she gave me a lot of her jewelry. Now, we lost everything. Not only monetary value but a lot of sentiments involved in this jewelry, we are very depressed” Madhavi Daharmakar said

“Police in India are lot better than the police in the USA in handling burglary cases. US Police don’t give much importance to burglary cases and it is almost impossible for them to recover the lost items. Unless it is a homicide or killing, police don’t pay any attention to other cases. I’m contacting the Chief of the Dallas Police Investigation Bureau and Dallas City Mayor and requesting to help our Indian community by having a thorough investigation plan and taking thieves into custody as soon as possible.” Prasad Thotakura, Indian American Community Leader, said.
