Indian-American Festival in New Jersey

Hindu Temple and Cultural Society of USA, Inc. has been organizing the festival to foster greater understanding between various Cultures, local community and the Indian Community and Culture.

This year marks the 12th year and it is now a well recognized event in the tri-state area.

The number of people attending and the number of vendors participating has been growing each year. We estimate between 10 and 12 thousand people attend the event over two days. We were having this festival as an outdoor event like “mela” on the Temple campus. In 2009, the venue is moved to centrally located fully air-conditioned Garden State Exhibit center.

Dance, solo and group, competitions were introduced in 2002 in classical, movie and folk categories. The following year outstanding dance school competitions were introduced to showcase the talents of students from various teaching schools and academies. In 2011, we will be introducing Karaoke singing competitions in movie, folk and semi-classical categories.

Over the years, several public servants have attended the Festival and the community had an opportunity to exchange views affecting our community. Of the many, it is important that we mention a few are US Congressman Hon. Rodney Frelinghuyse, Gov. Jon Corzine, Senator Bob Menendez, and NJ State Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula.

The Indian-American Festival will be conducted on Saturday July 9 and Sunday July 10, 2011.
