IAS, IPS, IFS And Now 'ITS' In India?

Recently, I was watching the film ‘Aarakshan’. Considering the hype and hungama created by few communities, I felt the film had enough thought provoking material but I must say it was not so.

Anyways, there were a few good things about the film and here is one of them. The most interesting idea generated by Prakash Jha through ‘Aarakshan’ is introducing ITS-Indian Teaching Service on par with IAS,IFS,IRS,IPS.

It is an open fact that all intellectual brains are running behind software purely for the money aspect and the comfortable lifestyle. Due to this, other faculties are suffering. This is leaving half vacancies in all other faculties and full vacuum in Teaching! Even other happening fields are also getting neglected and that’s why big companies are now taking retired and senior people. As for the teaching stream, there is zero quality in the members. Only left-overs and quota candidates are getting into teaching.

If India has to see teachers like S.Radhakrishna and APJ Kalam for shining the next generations ITS (Indian Teaching Service) is a must. The country is overflowing with tutors not teachers. India gave birth to many sciences like astrology right in the BC times at places like Takshasila, Nalanda. Many forms of education such as Shiksha, Vyakaranam, Chandassu, Kalpam etc etc were practiced and studied here. This was happening till recently upto the last 50 years. But with engineering education coming in, that began to fade and the last 15 years were totally devoted to the software mania. This is followed by the Internet revolution and whatever little was remaining has been wiped out.

To shape up teachers, one must mould them to make the right teachers. Individuals having the right kind of qualities should be taken and they must be given good perks. There is no doubt that the top league and premium educational institutions will have high quality. But the same should continue in other layers of teaching at midlevel and lower level educational institutions. There is a need to shape up good students. And that is possible only when the teacher is good.

Unfortunately, we are filled with tutors. Tutors, who train students for coming examinations, what we need is teachers who can train students to make them lead coming generations. Right now, all I see is nine out of ten are like Manoj Bajpayees of ‘Aarakshan’ while very rarely, I get to see someone like Amitabh Bachchan of ‘Aarakshan’. It is time the government starts focusing on ITS and gives it a shape.
