US President Donald Trump has declared that his favourite word in the English language is “tariffs,” calling it the “most beautiful” because, in his view, tariffs are making America wealthy again.
His remarks come amid heightened trade tensions with India and Brazil, two of the countries facing some of the steepest US tariffs — set at 50% since August 2025.
“I love tariffs. Most beautiful word… Tariff is my favourite word. We’re becoming rich as hell. We’ve taken in trillions of dollars. When we finish this out, there’ll never be any wealth like what we have. Other countries had been taking advantage of us for years… Now we’re treating them fairly,” Trump said during a speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Arizona, addressing top US military generals and officials.
Trump stressed that tariffs were a tool to restore balance in global trade, saying other nations had long exploited the US economy.
The President has also taken to social media to underline his stance. In a recent post on Truth Social, he wrote: “Starting October 1st, 2025, we will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented Pharmaceutical Product, unless a Company IS BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America.”
With tariffs at the center of his trade policy, Trump has continued to project them as a cornerstone of his economic vision — one he claims is reshaping global commerce in America’s favor.
