Explained: 'Empty Gun' Lands Telugu Youth In US Jail

A 25-year-old man named Mahankali Akhil Sai was tragically shot and killed in Montgomery City, Alabama.

He was a native of Madhira town in Khammam district and had gone to the US in December to study MS at Auburn University.

At the time of the incident, he was working at a nearby gas station. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead.

Another individual named Raviteja Goli has been charged with manslaughter and is currently in custody.

Reports suggest that Ravi Goli, who was working as a part-time security guard at the gas station, told Mahankali that the gun was empty, but there was still one bullet left in the cartridge.

Ravi believed the gun was empty, but when Mahankali checked it, the incident occurred. The authorities have been provided with evidence.

Ravi is expected to face charges of involuntary manslaughter, which refers to the accidental discharge of a firearm resulting in someone's death.

The family of Mahankali has requested help from the Indian and Telangana governments in bringing his body back to India.
