Bangalore Nagaratnamma was a devadasi. She was a fine artist, writer, reader, performer, editor and social activist. She was an epitomic example of Independent Indian woman in all phases of life. 
 
In literature she fought and won with the stalwarts like Kandukuri Veeresalingam. She spent all her hard earned riches to build a temple around Saint Tyagaraja's Samadhi. Even today her statue is humbly present before his Samadhi in Thiruvaiyaru.
