Name and fame came his way early. His connection with the film industry kept his popularity ratings high. With scores of tinsel world beauties swarming around him as disciples, self- styled godman Paramahamsa Nityanand wouldn’t have imagined that his highprofile image would prove to be his undoing.
At just 37 years of age, the founder of the Nityanand Dhyanapeetam had managed to get himself a global following, with centres all over the world. He counted Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, senior Congress leader D. K. Shivakumar as devotees. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had released a book written by him.
But the swami has gone into hiding after a TV channel aired a sex clip featuring him with Tamil film actress Ranjitha, who is starring in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan . Ranjitha had reportedly entered the precincts of Nityanand’s ashram to work on a documentary film on yoga. By then, her marriage was on the rocks.
Sources say she started frequenting the ashram seeking solace, and eventually fell into the godman’s trap.
The godman himself seems to have fallen into trap he inadvertently laid out for himself.
