Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who tried to prove himself a tech-savvy leader and that he is always in the front to make use of the modern technology like artificial intelligence, has made a mockery of himself for once, at Mahanadu, the party’s biennial conclave, on Wednesday.
On the occasion of 101st birth anniversary of TDP founder N T Rama Rao, the TDP played an AI-generated video of the legendary actor on the dais on the second day of Mahanadu.
The video, shown to lakhs of party workers present at the venue, recreated NTR’s voice and spirit. Though the TDP claimed that it has drawn an overwhelming and emotional response from the crowd, it actually faced criticism from several quarters.
The AI-generated speech featured NTR addressing the gathering with a powerful message about the 43-year journey of the Telugu Desam Party, its mission, and the future ahead.
But it was a bad attempt, as the image of NTR was poorly designed and his diction was poorly imitated. “The voice was no way closer to the original voice of NTR and it appeared like a poorly-mimicked voice of a low-grade mimicry artiste,” an analyst said.
In the video, NTR opened with a greeting to all Telugu people around the world, especially appreciating farmers, workers, artists, and the loyal party cadre.
He said the TDP was not just a political party but a movement built from the struggles of the common man.
“It has been exactly 43 years since the birth of Telugu Desam Party, a movement I proudly say was founded by me — not just as a political party, but as a dream born from the pain of the common people, from the sweat of labourers, and from the cries of the oppressed,” the voice said.
Ironically, the AI-generated NTR was all praise for his son-in-law and present TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu for his leadership and vision in transforming Andhra Pradesh.
He recalled key achievements like building Tank Bund, developing Cyberabad as a tech hub, and launching major irrigation projects like Pattiseema.
“This is ridiculous. Everybody knows how NTR hated Naidu till his last breath, for backstabbing him and usurping power from him,” the analyst said.
What is more ironic is that in the video, NTR was seen expressing pride in Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, calling him a young leader who is carrying forward his dream of empowering youth and standing by party workers.
“Today, my grandson Lokesh is fulfilling that dream and working for betterment of people… Watching him from the heavens, I feel proud and emotional."
What a joke?
