What Now? Singapore Architects Can't Work In India?

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu has grand plans to involve Singapore architects in developing the new capital city.

But a new problem has popped up as the Architects Association has raised objections against his plans.

They argue that foreign architects can get work permits to do projects in India only as per the existing guidelines.

Apparently, as per our country rules, architects from countries who have a mutual agreement with us can work within the country, while those from other countries cannot.

And since Singapore has no such understanding with India, the Singaporean architects cannot take up projects here, says the organization.

Given this background, some architects are trying to work in India posing as designers, which is against rules says a prominent architect based in Chennai.

They further explains that when such a case was brought to its notice, the Delhi High Court had given a clearing ruling that such permits are against rules.

Now, it remains to be seen if the Andhra Pradesh government will ignore the guidelines or find a way out to handle the situation without creating a controversy.
