Venkaiah Changes Stand On Special Status

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu who vociferously demanded special status for Andhra Pradesh prior to bifurcation has mellowed down quite a bit.

Though he reiterated that he and his government were working towards fulfilling the promise, he hinted that the move will take time.

Since Manmohan Singh made the decision as the head of the Planning Commission, Venkaiah felt that there would be no road blocks from their side.

However, since a situation of one-upmanship has developed between some states, a few states were creating trouble he said. But the issue will have to be resolved amicably, he pointed out.

Venkaiah also added that getting special status will not change Andhra Pradesh overnight.

Many are wondering as to why Venkaiah who was quite vocal in Rajya Sabha is playing a different tune now that his party is in power.
