Though the UPA government has finally brought down the curtains on the Telangana statehood issue by giving clearance for a draft bill on formation of separate Telangana state, there could be legal hurdles ahead.
A leader of the YSR Congress Party on Friday said that he would move the Supreme Court challenging the Centre's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh, the first linguistic state sought to be divided in the country.
"The way the UPA government is going ahead with division is wrong and against the constitution. We will soon approach the Supreme Court seeking reversal of the decision," said
YSRCP leader and industrialist Raghurama Krishnamraju. He said that the Constitution does not have a provision for common capital. No attempt was made to involve all the stakeholders before deciding to bifurcate the state.
There were no efforts to provide justice to the agitating people of the Seemandhra region. The UPA government has just bulldozed its way and decided to split the state in utter disregard of the people's sentiments and also the constitutional provisions, he said. "How can they apply Article 371 (D) to both the states?" he asked.
