Sivaraman Report: A New Headache To AP Government

Once again, the Andhra Pradesh government is in a fix regarding the issue of a new capital city. While there was hope that Sivaramakrishnan committee’s report would end the stalemate within the state, it had entangled the issue further as it is not in sync with the ruling party’s stand.

The Andhra Pradesh government was keen on developing the new capital in the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri circuit. But the Committee has said that nearly 10,000 acres of land was required for the new capital, while the VUDA only had access to 1458 acres of land.

The Committee has categorically stated that given the high rates of realty, the idea of government procuring land from private parties would mean a huge financial burden on the newly carved state.

In fact, they feared that government would not be able to procure land to begin with.

On the other hand, the Andhra Pradesh government is of the opinion that the VGTM circuit is ideal for the new capital city as it owns a few buildings near Gannavaram and they feel the area around Nagarjuna University would be conducive for the purpose.

Meanwhile, if the government goes by the Sivaramakrishnan Committee’s report and develops Donakonda, then it has to deal with many more problems like water problems, road connectivity and it being away from the national highway.

Looks like the Committee’s report will give new headache to the AP government. If regional feelings get stoked once again, it could land the government in deep trouble.
