If Chandrababu Naidu has any kind of self-respect then he should immediately call off his alliance with the BJP.
It is absolutely clear that the BJP is not at all inclined to coming to the rescue of AP which is in the throes of a severe financial deficit.
As expected, Naidu’s request for Rs 20000 crore from the Center for the construction of a new capital has been comprehensively rejected.
This is actually fair because Naidu had just submitted a tentative master plan for the new capital and tried to pressurize the BJP saying that he already had a date in mind for the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ of the new capital.
This is just like a director going to a producer and asking him for Rs 50 crore to make a superb picture without having a script in hand. The Center has said that it would finance the construction of key structures such as the Secretariat and Assembly.
"How can Naidu ask us for a blanket release of Rs 20000 crore just like that?" questioned the Union government.
But where the BJP cannot be excused is in its refusal to accord special status to AP. It was Venkayya Naidu who promised a special status to AP for ten years, in the Rajya Sabha. After having taken credit for it which made the people of AP vote for his Party, he is now shamelessly reneging on the promise.
AP should not accept anything short of a special status and Naidu’s focus should be on getting that, instead of the new capital which is only a fool’s paradise.
To prove his sincerity to the people of AP, he should immediately sever his relationship with the BJP.
