Rs 1000 Crores Becomes Publicity Stunt

Right now, it is the season of publicity. The person or party that is capable of going into public through traditional or social media is the winner.

It is important to catch a point that would hold public’s interest and go on harping about it. It does not matter if the issue is vital or not.

Take the example of cyclone or floods. The issue is irrelevant. The mileage gained from it is important. No matter what happens in reality, the trick is in managing people and media.

The idea is to make posts on Facebook and get likes. Well, that is what politics is all about these days.

The latest issue to acquire prominence is the issue relating to the Rs 1000 crore announced by Prime Minister Modi.

When Modi toured AP after cyclone Hud Hud, he announced the aid which was to be given away immediately.

Though CM Chandra Babu Naidu asked for Rs 2000 crore, Modi assured Rs 1000 crore and people were happy that the PM released at least half of the amount.

So far so good. But it has been a week since the aid was announced. Now a week has passed, but the funds haven’t reached the people of AP as yet.

In fact, the point was brought up by the local BJP leaders and they immediately got into action. They went to Delhi and made media statements that they met up with Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ask him to release the funds immediately.

Well, one can safely say that their gimmick is the height of publicity mongering politicians.

Some of them can go to any extent to be in public eye. But what will the Home Minister do about an issue that needs to be tackled by the Finance Minister? It would have been better if they met up the Finance Minister instead.
